Reports of illegal Fox hunting may not cover ‘legal’ trail or drag hunting. Fox hunting is illegal; trail and drag hunting (where the hunt follows an artificial scent laid out in a trail) is legal. Dogs can be used legally as part of a trail or drag hunt.
A search on the Athena system on the Full Offence Title “Hunting Act 2004”, as well as a keyword search on the Modus Operandi (MO) Field for the phrases “illegal hunt”, “hunt” and “hunting” have been undertaken, all of which returned no results. However, any keyword search may not be entirely accurate and any results would not necessarily answer your submission, and, therefore, could be highly inaccurate and misleading.
Essex Police do not record conviction/prosecution data on the Athena Custody system, this is held by the Crown Prosecution Service. However, if any offences had been located, we could have provided Outcome data.
