Number of Investigators for Rape 2015 and 2021 Comparison
2015 and 2021
I notice from the Essex Police website that rapes are increasing every year. With the data from 2015 to 2019 more than doubling. The data is a bit old now, but the media suggest that rapes are going through the roof.
My question is, how many more investigators do you have looking into these rapes compared to 2015?

The below context has been provided by the Head of Investigations for the Crime and Public Protection Command:
New teams have been formulated to deal with historic sexual abuse (QUEST) and a Proactive Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Investigations Team to tackle organised and complex CSE.
A couple of key reasons behind the rise in reported rape:
1) Domestic Abuse related incidents accounts for over 40% of all reported rapes. Much of this is down to Question 19 answers on the DASH risk assessment.
2) Crime Data Accuracy.
*Please note that the QUEST Team did not exist in 2015 and the CSE Team closest to the Proactive CSE Team is already part of the CAIT figures.
**Please note that the QUEST Team (1 Sgt and 6 Constables) and the Proactive CSE Team (1 Sgt and 9 Constables) are already part of the CAIT and ASAIT figures.
Every effort is made to ensure that the data provided by Essex Police is accurate and complete. However, Essex Police systems are designed primarily for the management of individual cases and not for the purposes of providing data to answer specific FOI enquiries. Please note although data can be extracted from a number of sources via database queries, the results may be subject to inaccuracies. Care should be taken to understand our return when considering the interpretation or further use of the data.
