I would like to request information under the Freedom of Information Act. Please could you provide the following information:
1) In 2019, how many reports of sexual assault and rape did you receive in which a male was the victim? If possible, please also provide the gender of the accused.
2) Of those, how many led to criminal charges?
3) In 2020, how many reports of sexual assault and rape did you receive in which a male was the victim? If possible, please also provide the gender of the accused.
4) Of those, how many led to criminal charges?

Outcome Types 1 and 1A were used to gather records where the Rape or Sexual Offences led to criminal charges being filed against the perpetrator.
Set of dates: 01 January 2019 to 31 December 2020.
Essex Police received a total of 634 reports of sexual assault and rape in which a male was the victim in the calendar year of 2019 and 633 reports of sexual assault and rape in which a male was the victim in the calendar year of 2020. This is shown in the table below.

Essex Police will not provide any further breakdown or information as the exemptions under FOI Section 40(2) Personal Information and Section 44(1) information covered by Prohibitions on disclosure such as the Sexual Offences (amendment) act 1992 which provides anonymity to victims of sexual offences.

The Force Information Management Board chaired by the Deputy Chief Constable has oversight of the Force wide programme of work to improve the quality of Force data.
