Origins of Fingerprint Development Procedures
N/A
I am currently doing research about the origins of fingerprint development procedures. I would therefore be interested in obtaining information from all over the world on the implementation of fingerprinting in each city/country/continent. Photos, documents, press releases, authors... I'm good with any information from the late 19th and early 20th century.
I already have a lot of literature, but I know that sometimes institutions like yours can hide little treasures to help me in my research.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request. Under Section 1(1)(b) the below and attached have been provided in relation to your request:
Caveat: The data is correct as at 07 December 2021.
Over the last 20 years in the UK, the Fingerprint Enhancement Labs who examine, develop and image the fingerprint impressions on exhibits recovered from crime scenes follow the relevant Home Office publications on the subject which are as follows:
Fingerprint Development Handbook
Police Scientific Development Branch (PSDB) April 2000
Fingerprint Development Handbook
Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) March 2005
Fingermark Visualisation Manual
Home Office 2014
In March 2022 the Home Office are due to publish a new and updated version of the Fingermark Visualisation Manual.
The Manual details the best treatment method to enhance and develop fingerprint impressions on specific surface types and under certain conditions. The treatment methods have all been nationally validated and the Fingermark Visualisation Manual is the recognised standard text on the subject for fingerprint development procedures.
The attached has been provided by our Force Museum.
