I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from Essex Police.
Please may you provide me with:
The total number of race hate crime offences against children recorded in the last 5 years (numbers broken down by each year, e.g. 2020/21).
The type of race hate crime offence, e.g. physical abuse, verbal abuse, online abuse etc.
A breakdown of the ages of the victims.
How many of these offences ended in prosecution?

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request, Essex Police can confirm in respect of Section 1(1)(b) the following data:
Caveats:
The data is correct as at 27 October 2021.
The Home Office Classification of ‘NC/10’ was used to retrieve all relevant Hate Crime Offences and Records.
Essex Police do not record conviction data on the Athena Custody system (this is held by the Crown Prosecution Service). Instead, the Race Hate Crimes leading to a Charged Outcome have been provided. The Outcome Type Dimension was applied as a filter to select only the ‘Type 1’ and ‘Type 1A’ Options to select all the relevant Race Hate Crimes leading to a charge.
Date Period: 01 January 2016 to 26 October 2021.
A total of 955 Race Hate Crime Offences against children (under 18’s) have been recorded by Essex Police in the last 5 years from 01 January 2016 to 26 October 2021. The yearly breakdown of these offences by the type of Race Hate Crime Offence is shown in the table below:
