Please would you let me know how many racial incidents your police force investigated during 1 Jan-31Dec 2019, 1 Jan-31 Dec 2020 and 1 Jan-31 December 2021?
I would like the figures broken down into:
1. age group e.g., infant school; primary school; secondary school; 18-30; 31-50; 51-70; over 70s or whichever way your service breaks down the age groups.
2. gender.
3. racial/ethnic groups of complainants e.g., white; Asian; African-Caribbean or whichever way your service breaks down the racial/ethnic groups.
I would also like to know:
1. how many were charged as a result of your investigations.
2. the racial/ethnic group of the suspects.
3. how they are dealt with e.g., court, caution or community remedy.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request. Under Section 1(1)(b) the below has been provided in relation to your request:
Caveat: The procedures are correct as at 31/01/2022.
Key points to note:
The hate incident type dimension was selected to have the ‘hate incident – racial’ option
The Home Office Classification of ‘NC/10’ was used to bring back all relevant hate crime offences and records.
NOTE: Total victims and suspects will NOT match the total volume of incidents as reports can contain multiple suspects.
Set of dates:
2019: 1st January 2019 to 31st December 2019
2020: 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020
2021: 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2021
A total of 794 racial hate incidents were investigated by Essex Police involving one or more victims between 1st January 2019 and 31st December 2021.
The yearly breakdown of these volumes by age groups is shown in the table below:

A total of 413 racial hate incidents were investigated by Essex Police involving one or more suspects between 1st January 2019 and 31st December 2021.
None of these investigations led to the suspects being charged since none of the suspect records had a chargeable outcome (outcome 1 / 1A).
