Revenue Generated by Speed Cameras
2019 to 2020
1. What is the total amount, in pounds and pence, that your police force has generated from speed cameras overseen and/or operated by your force so far this year, last year (2020) and 2019? Further, how many fines in total do these amounts relate to for each year? So please list in total how much in pounds and pence has been generated for every year listed above from all speed cameras in your force’s jurisdiction. Then please separately also list for each year how many fines in total these amounts relate to.
2. Please list which camera overseen and/or operated by your force has generated the largest amount of money so far this year, and separately over the course of the three years listed above, and where that camera is located. Please detail in pounds and pence in total how much this camera generated and how many fines were issued.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does not hold information relating to your request.
To provide some explanation and to meet our duty to assist under Section 16 of the FOIA, Essex Police can advise:
We do not hold fine details, however, Essex Police can provide the number of detections i.e. camera activations and outcomes i.e. Conditional Offers, Prosecutions, etc, however, this will not include Court results.
Most speeding offences are dealt with by way of Conditional Offers (also known as Fixed Penalty Notices) or Driver Awareness Training and only where the case is disputed and goes to court would a “fine” be issued. You may wish to directly approach the HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) who hold data regarding speeding fines, fine income and prosecutions – please see below link:

Course fees are paid to the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP), therefore, you may wish to submit an FOI request directly to them:
