RSO Monitoring Numbers
2017 - 2021
Number of Registered Sex Offenders (RSOs) monitored each year by Essex Police, including risk categories relating to level of monitoring visits undertaken. Details also relating to number of wanted RSOs and the total number of RSOs that have been removed from the register each year.
Please be aware that figures provided are for the month of December each year only, there will be variation in RSO numbers throughout the year.
Figures do not include RSOs in prison.
Please note that a percentage of RSOs are managed by Probation due to being on license in the community after prison release. These visits are the responsibility of the National Probation Service (NPS).
Some visits are unable to be undertaken by Essex Police due to RSOs being missing or abroad.
RSOs are required to notify the police of their name, address, and other personal details and to subsequently update police with any changes (the “notification requirement”). Failure to comply with the notification requirement is a criminal offence that carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment. If an RSO does not notify police of any changes and their whereabouts become unknown, they are listed as wanted.
Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) publish national and local reports on RSOs and other sexual and violent offenders. A link has been provided below to provide direction if required.
