Speed Camera Enforcement
2018 to 2020
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request the following information regarding speed cameras operated by the force:
1. The number of speed cameras currently installed
2. The number of these cameras currently in operation
3. The camera that has resulted in the highest number of offences in the past three years (2018-20)
4. The highest speed recorded by a camera in the past three years (2018-20).
For each of these I would like information for the entire area covered by the force.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request, Essex Police can confirm in respect of Section 1(1)(b) the following data:
Caveat: The data is correct as at 25 September 2021.
1. The number of speed cameras currently installed.
There are 100 camera sites i.e. camera boxes on the side of the road.
2. The number of these cameras currently in operation.
There are 20 cameras currently in operation that are moved around to different sites.
3. The camera that has resulted in the highest number of offences in the past three years (2018-20)
The camera located at the A282 Trunk Road, Dartford-Thurrock Crossing.
4. The highest speed recorded by a camera in the past three years (2018-20)
The highest speed recorded by a camera was 158mph.
