Background Information

Number of incidents where a theft or burglary has been reported to Essex Police from a ‘Motor Vehicle’ or ‘Residential – Non-Dwelling’

The search criterion of Residential – Non-Dwelling has been applied to encompass all domestic outbuildings not considered to be a residential address or commercial location e.g. garden shed, garage, summerhouse, cabin etc.

The following offence titles have been included within the Residential – Non-Dwelling information: Burglary, Attempted Burglary, Distraction Burglary, Attempted Distraction Burglary, Aggravated Burglary, and Attempted Aggravated Burglary.

Vehicle types e.g. car, van etc. are not recorded within an easily extractable format on Essex Police systems. Therefore, reported thefts from all motor vehicles have been included.

Please note that the breakdown of property types reported as stolen is the number of times each type has been listed per report, and not the total quantity. Each property type will only be reported once for reference regardless of the total number involved within the actual report.

For data accuracy, financial values for property are estimated amounts only. Some incidents may not have the property values recorded and cannot be included within the total figures.
