Notes
- Essex Police record information where investigations have either been recorded as homicide, (the unlawful killing of one person by another) or for the older offences were investigated as homicide, and not necessarily murder (which indicates pre-meditation).
- As investigation’s progress, some may transpire not be homicides but are still recorded as such. The data includes cases that following investigation remain recorded as a homicide (murder or manslaughter).
- The data also includes a number where the person responsible has been identified and charged but after legal proceeding (trial or appeal) resulted in an acquittal.
- Live investigations are not included within the data, i.e. those that remain with the investigation teams. The data is correct as at 20/10/2023.
