This policy has been updated on its 2 yearly review as follows:
Essex Police is committed to complying with the Vetting Code of Practice (VCOP). This sets out the vetting standards which are to be applied to all police forces in England and Wales. The VCOP replaces all guidance previously issued in relation to police vetting.
Compliance with this policy and any linked procedures is mandatory.
Essex Police will conduct vetting in accordance with the VCOP in support of the Authorised Professional Practice (APP). Essex Police can provide a vetting clearance level for the following levels; Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) level 1, NPPV2, NPPV2 Abbreviated, NPPV3, Recruitment Vetting (RV) and Management Vetting (MV). The level of access to both assets and data determines which level is required. The level set out by the Corporate Vetting Unit (CVU) is final and all police officers, police staff, members of the Special Constabulary, staff of partnership agencies, other non-police personnel and those working voluntarily or under contract to the force will be required to undertake this process prior to access being granted.
The Corporate Vetting Team comprises of four roles: Force Vetting Manager, Team leaders, Decision Makers and Vetting Administrators.
There are no risks associated with this policy.
The following have been consulted during the formulation of this document:
This policy will be monitored and reviewed by the Force Vetting Manager after two years. The monitoring will take into consideration any changes in relevant legislation or procedures impacting on Force Vetting and National Security Vetting.
