This strategic leadership role will play a key part in the corporate management and direction of the Force with particular responsibility for an allocated functional area of activity.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational and visionary leader who can connect with police officers, police staff, volunteers and local communities to deliver a first class policing service to the public of Essex.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to innovate and lead transformation to deliver improvements in service to the public
  • Sound and all round operational credibility with evidence of leading exceptional service delivery
  • Substantial evidence of the ability to strategically manage performance across a diverse range of policing activity
  • A true commitment and passion to enhance the service provided to the public 
  • Confidence and clarity in communicating with media, public audiences and key partners

Assistant Chief Constable - Serious Crime Directorate

Essex Police and Kent Police – (based at Northfleet Police Station, Kent)

The Chief Constables of Kent Police and Essex Police are seeking to recruit an exceptional new Assistant Chief Constable to a unique role.

Our Serious Crime Directorate works collaboratively within Kent Police and Essex Police to effectively identify and tackle those involved in serious criminality in our neighbourhoods. This includes home grown criminal networks within our own communities through to criminals who travel into Kent and Essex to commit offences. The directorate also provides a range of services to support local policing across both counties. 

This influential and strategic leadership role will join a well-established collaborative directorate covering both Forces. You will play a key role in the corporate management and have responsibility for the leadership and direction of one of the largest Serious Crime Directorates in the country.

Whilst the successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Chief Constable within Kent Police, this role will require the successful candidate to operate as a Chief Officer across both Forces.

As well as holding the highest levels of operational credibility the successful candidate will:

  • Have a sound and all round local and specialist detective policing expertise with evidence of exceptional operational delivery; this will include the technical skills necessary to effectively lead a range of high risk operations including major crime, serious and organised crime, intelligence, forensics and covert policing.
  • Be an inspirational leader with the ability to lead and implement change within a complex  environment
  • Be a visionary leader with a clear ability to connect with officers, staff and key stakeholders at all levels in order to effectively deliver high quality policing and an excellent, first class serious crime provision to the public of Essex and Kent.
  • Understand the needs and issues arising from policing different communities and be committed to helping Kent Police and Essex Police deliver diversity in Policing.
  • Demonstrate substantial evidence of their ability to drive, improve and deliver service delivery outcomes whilst making high risk decisions at a strategic level.
  • Be truly committed and passionate about the service provided to the public of Essex and Kent.
