Essex Police Opportunities for Chief Inspector/Detective Chief Inspector

Promotion / Level Transfer Opportunities

Starting Salary: National Chief Inspector Pay scale plus £2,000 South East allowance (or other housing rent allowance).

Essex Police are looking for suitably qualified Inspectors/Detective Inspectors who are eligible for promotion and Chief Inspector/Detective Chief Inspector on a level transfer to join it’s leadership team.

We are seeking dynamic, innovative, and operationally credible leaders who are committed to enhancing service delivery that will support victims, reduce violence, enhance visibility and protect the most vulnerable within our society. The successful candidates will be truly committed and passionate about leading people and developing key partnerships to provide an exceptional policing service to the people of Essex.

Successful candidates will provide substantial evidence of leading the provision of a high-quality service to the public, demonstrating potential at Chief Inspector level. In addition, candidates will be required to demonstrate evidence at level 2 of the national Competency and Values Framework (CVF):

Candidates wishing to be considered for a Detective Chief Inspector role must also:

  • Be an Accredited Detective and have a proven background of managing complex investigations.

The selection process is in four stages:

  1. Chief Officer Briefing – to provide more information on the process: Wednesday 24th April 2019 8am.
  2. Application window: 5th April 2019 – 29th April 2019
  3. Media and stakeholder panel: week commencing 6th May and week commencing 13th May 2019.
  4. Interview: Commencing 9th May 2019

To support potential candidates and to provide advice on both the process and the Chief Constable’s requirements of future leaders a briefing will be held for interested candidates on 24th April at 8am. Applications will be subject to a paper sifting process. Candidates who are successful at paper sifting will progress to a further assessment process.

Please note: at Stage 2, applicants who have been unsuccessful for promotion in their own force within the previous 12 months will need to provide Essex Police with the specific feedback and development plan that demonstrates they have addressed the development areas. In addition, applicants must be supported to apply for these roles by their current management team and Chief Officer.

Successful applicants will receive postings based on specific skills, vacancy and operational requirements. Candidates should be aware that we will post successful candidates into the most appropriate role/location based on organisational need even where candidates have stated a specific preference.

In order to support Force resilience and to maintain operational skills and credibility successful candidates will be expected to conduct relevant on-call duties if successful.
