Could you volunteer your time to help tackle and solve serious crime in Essex?

We’re launching two new and exciting roles within our Special Constabulary where you can volunteer your time to solve serious crimes including murders, stranger rapes and fraud and corruption cases.

You’ll undergo the same training course that all Special Constables complete and will continue your training alongside detectives in our Major Crime Unit and our Serious Economic Crime Unit with our Serious Crime Directorate.

We’re on the lookout for driven, organised and self-motivated individuals who can volunteer for a minimum of 16 hours a month as Special Constables in a volunteer detective type role alongside serving detectives.

There are two teams to choose from that each require a different set of skills and experiences.

More about the roles

  • Major Crime Unit
Could you be a volunteer detrective?
Do you want to help investigate the most serious crimes in Essex including murders, attempted murders, stranger rapes and kidnappings?

We’re looking for driven, organised and self-motivated individuals to be a part of a big team where every shift could bring something different.

Every day brings a new challenge, one day it could be checking CCTV, the next day you could be carrying out house to house enquiries. You’ll need to be tech-savvy and be able to navigate your way around a computer or phone with ease.

Working alongside detectives, you’ll receive training to help you bring justice to some of the most serious criminals in Essex.
  • Serious Economic Crime Unit
Could you be a volunteerv detective?
Could you help us investigate complex fraud and corruption cases, money laundering and electoral fraud?

We’re looking for logical thinkers to take on some of the most complex investigations in Essex. With good communications skills to help you reassure sometimes vulnerable and elderly victims, you’ll take the lead in identifying and bringing justice to sophisticated criminals.

You’ll help to execute warrants, capture evidence and give crime prevention advice.
