Efit released in Witham attempted rape investigation

We are releasing an efit of a man we want to speak to in connection with an attempted rape in Witham.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, was walking in an alleyway near to Bramble Road at around 8.45am on January 3, when a man approached her from behind and tried to rape her.

She was able to fight him off and then man ran away in the direction of the adjacent park.

She has been safeguarded and is being supported by specialist officers.

A 23 year-old man from Witham arrested in connection with incident has been released under investigation.

We are now looking to identify the man pictured in our efit.

Detective Inspector Al Pitcher, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “This is a fast paced investigation and we are following a number of lines of enquiry.

“We need to identify and speak to the man pictured in the efit as he may have information which is important.

“If you recognise him please contact my team.

“We’re also looking for anyone who was driving in the area between 6am and 11am who may have seen something or may have dash cam footage.

“In particular we’re looking for anyone driving in the areas of Bluebell Close, Bramble Road, Harebell Drive, Campion Way, and Powers Hall End from the junction with Flora Road to Spring Lodge and ‘Vets Now’.

“If you were in that area and have a dash cam please contact us. You may have captured something on film that could be really important to our investigation."
