Fourth person charged with Courtney Valentine-Brown's murder

Update: April 10
A fourth person has been charged with the murder of Courtney Valentine-Brown.
Kelly King, 30, of Howards Close, Westcliff, has been charged with the 36-year-old's murder after being re-arrested today, Wednesday, April 10.
She had been released under investigation following her arrest the day after Mr Valentine-Brown's death on February 21.
She is due at Southend Magistrate's Court tomorrow, Thursday, April 11.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who they’ve not spoken to who has information about Courtney Valentine-Brown's murder to come forward.

April 10
A 30-year-old woman from Southend, who was released under investigation in connection with the death of Courtney Valentine-Brown, has today been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.
Senior Investigating Officer DCI Daniel Stoten said: "This arrest has come as a result of new evidence being identified as part of an ongoing and detailed investigation.
"Officers and staff from the our Major Investigation team remain committed to this investigation and to identifying those responsible."
Three people have been charged with the murder of Mr Valentine-Brown; Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh-on-Sea, Stuart Pearson, 43, of Satanita Road, Westcliff and Alex Stephens, 36, of Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff.
A 17-year-old boy from London arrested on suspicion of intent to supply Class A drugs and a 28-year-old woman from Westcliff arrested on suspicion of permitting premises to be used for drug supply and obstructing a police officer, have both remain under investigation.



March 2
A third person has been charged with the murder of Southend man Courtney Valentine-Brown.
Stuart Pearson, 43, of Satanita Road, Westcliff, has been charged with murder.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday 2 March, and is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday 5 March.
Alex Stephens, 36, of Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday, Friday 1 March, charged with murder.
He is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on Wednesday 17 April, along with Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh-on-Sea, who also faces a charge of murder.



February 29
Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Southend are continuing to appeal for information.
Courtney Valentine-Brown, who was 36 and from Southend, was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21.
He was taken to hospital but, sadly, later died and a forensic post-mortem examination found he had suffered a stab wound to the leg.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Stoten said: "Courtney was a young man in the prime of his life. He leaves a grieving family who are trying to understand why he was so suddenly and violently taken from them.
"The hard work and dedication of my team has resulted in the arrest of six people, two of which have been charged with Courtney's murder.  
"I would like to thank the local community for their help but I'm still appealing for their assistance. If you've haven't spoken with Detectives and have CCTV in Roots Hall Drive, Hamlet Court Road, Satanita Road, Finchley Road or in any of the nearby roads, or were driving in the area around 11.30pm on February 21 and have dash cam footage, then please make contact with us by calling the South Major Investigation Team on 101 or by emailing [email protected]

He added: "This was clearly a targeted attack and the wider public are not at risk."
Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh-on-Sea has been charged with murder and is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on April 17. He has been remanded in custody.
Alex Stephens, 36, of Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff also charged with murder is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court today, March 1. He has been remanded in custody.
A 43-year-old man from Westcliff was arrested on February 28, on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.
A 30 year-old woman arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until March 21.
A 17-year-old boy from London was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply Class A drugs has been released under investigation.
A 28-year-old woman from Westcliff arrested on suspicion of permitting premises to be used for drug supply and obstructing a police officer has been released on bail until March 20.

 


February 28
A sixth person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Courtney Valentine-Brown in Southend on February 21.
A 43-year-old man from Westcliff was arrested shortly after 11.30am today, Thursday, February 28, on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody.

 

February 28
A second man has been charged with the murder of Courtney Valentine-Brown in Southend.
Mr Valentine-Brown, 36, was found injured at a property on Roots Hall Drive on February 21.
Sadly, he later died in hospital. 
Alex Stephens, 36, of Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today, February 28, charged with his murder.
Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh on Sea, who was also charged with the murder of Mr Valentine-Brown earlier this week, will next appear at Basildon Crown Court on April 17.

Two more people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Southend.
Mr Valentine-Brown, 36, was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21.
Sadly, he died later in hospital and a forensic post-mortem examination found he had died from a stab wound to his leg.
Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh-on-Sea was charged with murder on February 25 and is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court today, February 26.
A 17-year-old boy from London was arrested yesterday, February 25, on suspicion of intent to supply Class A drugs and later released under investigation.
A 28-year-old woman from Westcliff also arrested on February 25, on suspicion of permitting premises to be used for drug supply and obstructing a police officer.  She has been bailed until March 20.
A 30 year-old woman arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until March 21.
A 35 year-old man from Southend arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

February 25 at 8.15am
A man has been charged with the murder of Courtney Valentine-Brown in Southend.
Mr Valentine-Brown, 36, was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21.
Sadly, he died later in hospital and a forensic post-mortem examination found he had died from a stab wound to his leg.
Ian Slater, 49, of Wayletts, Leigh-on-Sea was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and has now been charged with murder.
He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, February 25).
A third person has also been arrested in connection with the incident.
A 35 year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of murder last night.
A 30 year-old woman arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until March 21.

A man who died after being stabbed in Southend has been described as ‘cheeky, ambitious, and extremely creative’.
Courtney Valentine-Brown, who was 36 and from Southend, was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21.
He was taken to hospital but, sadly, later died and a forensic post-mortem examination found he had suffered a stab wound to the leg.
In a tribute his family said: “We are heartbroken over the murder of our dear son, brother, uncle and cousin who was tragically taken away from us prematurely.
“He was ambitious, cheeky and extremely creative with his whole future ahead of him despite his life challenges.”
A 49 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of this morning and remains in custody while a 30 year-old woman arrested on conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until March 21.
Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone who they’ve not spoken to who has information about the incident to come forward.

A 49 year-old man has been arrested in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, February 24) on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a man in Southend.
He is currently in custody.
It follows an incident shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21 where a man in his 30s was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive.
He was taken to hospital but, sadly, later died and a forensic post-mortem examination has found he had suffered a stab wound to the leg.
A 30 year-old woman arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder has been released on bail until March 21.
Officers are continuing to appeal for information about the incident including CCTV or dash cam footage.

A forensic post-mortem examination has identified a man who died following an incident in Southend on Thursday he died from a stab wound to the leg.
The man, who is in his 30s was found injured at an address in Roots Hall Drive shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21.
He was taken to hospital but, sadly, later died.
A 30 year-old woman from Southend was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder yesterday and is currently in custody.
Officers are continuing to appeal for information about the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “Our investigation is progressing well and we’ve been able to build up a picture of what led up to the assault but we still need anyone with information to come forward.
“If you saw or heard anyone leaving the area in the moments after the incident, or have any CCTV or dash cam footage, I need you to call my team
“It doesn’t matter how small or insignificant you think it is, it could be vital to our investigation.
“A man has died and it’s really important we establish what happened.”

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in Southend.
We were called by the ambulance service shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 21 with reports that a man had been seriously injured at an address on Roots Hall Drive in Southend.
The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his leg, where sadly he later died.
Detectives are continuing their enquiries to establish what happened and anyone with information is asked to contact the South Major Crime Team on 101 or email [email protected]
