Sunday 25 August Two girls who were injured following a road traffic collision in which two people sadly died are now in a serious but stable condition.
The 17-year-old from Chingford and 16-year-old from Woodford remain in hospital after undergoing surgery.
A 16-year-old girl from Loughton and a 21-year-old man from Buckhurst Hill died following the collision on Goldings Hill, Loughton, in the early hours of yesterday, Saturday 24 August.
A 21-year-old man from Loughton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.
He was discharged from hospital this afternoon, Sunday 25 August, and remains in custody for questioning.
A single vehicle, a silver BMW M3, was involved in the collision. It had left the road and struck a tree at about 2.05am yesterday.
Enquiries are ongoing.
We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or saw a silver BMW M3 driving in the Loughton and Epping areas in the early hours of yesterday.
We are also keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area who has dash cam footage, or anyone who has CCTV.

Saturday 24 August: Update We have now established the people who sadly died in a road traffic collision in Loughton in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 24 August, were a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl.
Two girls aged 16 and 17 remain in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
A 21-year-old man from Loughton who was arrested at the scene in Goldings Hill remains in hospital.
We are appealing for witnesses who saw what happened, or saw a silver BMW M3 driving in the Loughton and Epping areas in the early hours of this morning.

Two people have died and another two are in a life-threatening condition following a road traffic collision in Loughton.
Officers found a silver BMW M3 had collided with a tree in Goldings Hill, Loughton, shortly after 2.05am today, Saturday 24 August. No other vehicle was involved.
A woman and a man, both believed to be aged in their 20s, sadly died at the scene. Two women were taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
He was taken to hospital, where he currently remains. He is believed to have minor injuries.
