We are investigating after a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Wickford.
We were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to the collision, between a car and a pedestrian, in High Street which took place at 9.45am this morning, Thursday 18 November.
Officers arrived and found a man aged in his 80s had sustained head injuries.
We put in place a road closure to make the scene safe while the man was treated.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
The road will remain closed into this afternoon as officers carry out their investigations.
An 86-year-old man from Wickford has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody for questioning.
