We are investigating after a man sustained a serious injury during a disturbance in Southend.
We were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to Southchurch Avenue, close to the junction with Woodgrange Drive, shortly after 10.50pm yesterday, Monday 13 June.
It was reported that a man had sustained a head injury and had been found on the pavement.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and he remains in custody for questioning.
We need anyone who saw an incident or has any dash cam or doorbell footage of it to get in contact.
Detective Chief Inspector Antony Alcock, who is leading our investigation, said:
“We know there are a number of people who witnessed this incident who have not yet come forward to speak to us and I would encourage those people to please get in touch.
“Equally, we are also keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on their mobile phone or on dashcam.
“I would like to thank those people who have already come forward to give their accounts. Those accounts are helping my team to piece together the circumstances around this incident.
"Although our investigation is in its early stages, at this stage we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.”
