Brought to justice
Our detectives have secured justice for the family of James Avis after a man admitted killing him.
Thirty-five year-old James died after being assaulted in Hainault Avenue at around 10.35pm on Saturday 25 September.
Radu Ciobanu, 24, of Kings Chase, Witham, was arrested shortly after and subsequently charged with manslaughter.
He appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Monday (15 November) where he pleaded guilty.
He is due to be sentenced at the same court on Friday (19 November).Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said:
“James’ death was a needless and avoidable tragedy.
“Radu Ciobanu’s actions have caused James’ family a huge amount of grief.
“He has at least admitted his guilt and prevented them from re-living the ordeal through a trial.”
