A man charged in connection with an assault which led to the death of Philip Mersh has had his charge upgraded.
Forty-three year-old Philip was assaulted in Broadway, Leigh-on-Sea on 31 October.
He was seriously injured and, sadly, died in hospital two days later.Daniel Ballard, 31, of Lincoln Close, Southend was arrested following the incident and initially charged with GBH with intent.
Following Philip’s death, our investigation became a homicide inquiry.
Appearing at Basildon Crown Court today (Friday 3 December), Ballard’s indictment was amended from GBH with intent to one count of murder and one count of manslaughter.
He pleaded not guilty to both counts and is due to stand trial on 20 July next year.
