You’ll spend the winter learning the basics from our expert, dedicated trainers at Essex Police College before taking your first steps on the beat in 2023.
You’ll be there to support people in the worst moments of their lives and deliver justice for them.
One of our newest officers, PC Bilal Ahmed, who graduated in May, is now protecting and serving his community in Grays.
PC Ahmed has received valuable support and advice throughout his time in the training college. He’s come across instructors who have been in our force for more than 20 or 30 years and who still love their job. It’s inspired PC Ahmed to have a life-long career with us.
“Anyone that you want to talk to in the college will always give you advice. Our trainer has always been so motivating and he will always make sure you’re doing your best.
“If you’re 18 or 50, you can still join. If you can talk to people, work hard and give 100%, then that’s all you need.
“You’re treated as a family at Essex Police.”
PC Charlotte Hodges, who was in the same intake as PC Ahmed, is based on Braintree’s Local Policing Team.
She’s passionate about her role in policing, so much so that she doesn’t view it as just a job, but as a lifestyle. Most of all, PC Hodges is using her transferable skills from when she worked in an airport and is now making a real difference to victims across Essex.
“Some victims will feel like they don’t have a voice and I want to help be that voice for them. Even if it’s something small, I want to be there for them so I can positively impact their day, week or maybe even their whole life”.
And PC Alexandra Lynch, serving on Colchester’s Local Policing team, wants to give some final advice before you head over and click the apply button.
“You will doubt yourself. Don’t. There are ups and downs to everything in the journey here. Don’t let things knock you down and make yourself get back up if you do. It’s just about believing in yourself. It’s fine to have a wobble. We all learn at different speeds. Don’t compare yourself to other people. Be open with your tutors, as they will always support you and won’t leave you behind.
“You will be so proud of yourself at the end of it.”
