As part of a complex investigation into a number of incidents of disruption to the road network in Essex in September and October 2021, we have received authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service to charge 39 people in total.
A further 20 people are due to appear in court to be charged in connection with our investigation into the disruption of the road network in Essex.
The group have been postal requisitioned to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 27.
Eight of those who will be charged relate to disruption caused at junction 30 of the M25 on September 30, 2021.
They will be charged with obstruction of the highway.
The remaining 12 will be charged with causing a public nuisance. Those charges relate to disruption of the road at junction 31 of the M25 on September 13, 2021.
Officers have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing investigation into the disruption in Essex and in other counties.
In total, we have now received authorisation to charge 39 people as part of our investigation.
Nineteen people are due to appear in court to be charged in connection with the disruption of a road in Grays.
Officers were called to a protest on the highway in St Clements, Grays, on the morning of October 13.
We arrived and worked quickly to clear the road and a number of people were arrested.
Officers have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing investigation into the disruption in Essex and in other counties and have now received authorisation to charge 19 people with obstruction of the highway.
The group have been postal requisitioned to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on May 26.
