Last month, our Roads Policing Unit proactively stopped and searched a vehicle in Chigwell and located over £100,000 worth of cannabis resin.

On Monday, 3 October, the man they arrested was sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply.

Officers were on patrol on the M11 on Friday, 2 September when they stopped and searched a vehicle on suspicion of being involved in drug related offences. When they searched the vehicle, they found ten bars of suspected cannabis in the back of the car. The driver and the passenger of the car were arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences.

Once assessed, the bars were confirmed to be cannabis resin, with an estimated street value of £114,000.

Juan Moreno, 24 of no fixed address was charged with possession to supply class B drugs. The second man arrested was released without further action.

After pleading guilty, Moreno appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court where he was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment.

Detective Inspector Anthony Atkin said:

"The initial proactive work of our roads policing officers that day and the further work from the investigative team has resulted in drugs being taken off the streets of Essex. This has prevented them from reaching vulnerable people in our county.
"Essex Police will continue to work hard to tackle drug related crime in Essex. Often with drug supplying offences, we rely on members of the public to report suspicious activity to us, to help us build a wider picture as to what is occurring in a particular community.
"You may overlook certain signs of drug dealing, such as a property having lots of visitors at all hours or a regular smell of cannabis in your street, but these are all signs and we’d encourage you to report to us online."
