Officers made an arrest after investigating a report of a car leaving the scene of a collision which left a man with serious injuries.
We were called shortly before 9.10am on Sunday 27 August to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Glebe Road, Chelmsford.
It was found the car had left the scene.
The pedestrian was left with serious injuries which are not life-threatening.
Following intelligence received, officers traced the vehicle to Hylands Park Car Park, in Chelmsford, by 10.10am, where a man was detained and arrested.
A 22-year-old man, from Rainham, London, was questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, failing to stop, driving under the influence and being concerned in supplying a controlled drug.
He has been released on bail while our enquiries continue.
