This weekend, officers from our Operational Support Group (OSG) have made five arrests for a variety of offences as part of their work to help keep you safe.
OSG were out across Essex on Friday and Saturday (11 and 12 August) supporting the force in proactive policing activities and high visibility patrols in areas such as Southend and Chelmsford.
Over the weekend, they arrested a man for breaching his bail conditions, and four others for offences including domestic abuse, burglary, drugs and criminal damage.
Additionally, they assisted a woman in distress and took her to a place of safety and keep our roads safe and traffic flowing.
“So far, this weekend’s activities show the variety of the work our team carries out each and every day.
“Each arrest means a victim has been safeguarded, with a positive impact on the wider community.
“Crimes are not everything we deal with: we also engage with and support the communities we serve.
“In Southend, officers joined forces with partners at a Safer Spaces event where we assisted two young people who, at separate times, needed medical assistance and reassurance. It’s important that we conduct these welfare checks to allow them the opportunities to gain the help they need.”
Similarly, other officers worked with partners in Chelmsford as part of an Opengate deployment, which was very well received.
Over the weekend, the Chelmsford partnership engaged with over 350 people, with 150 people being checked through the Opengate system.
We had positive feedback from visitors and businesses that our work with the Community Safety Partnership reassured those visiting the city, letting them know that help was on hand should they need it.
Focus on the night-time economy provided safe space for vulnerable visitors and allowed partners such as the SOS bus, street wardens, taxi enforcement officers etc to extend offers of help to vulnerable people.
“Everything we’ve done this weekend shows our officers are dedicated to keeping everyone safe and catching criminals.”
At Essex Police, we value difference, and know that we’re strongest when we all work together.
