A man has been arrested in connection with an assault in Southend city centre yesterday (Sunday 20 August).
It was reported two men had been involved in an argument in the Southchurch Road near to Corals and Greggs at around 5.20pm.
One of the men was struck to the head and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A 32 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and is currently in custody.
Detectives from Southend CID are investigating whether this incident is linked to another assault in Southchurch Road at around 3.15pm which involved a fight between two men.
Contrary to speculation on social media, neither incident was a stabbing nor was a knife reported to have been seen.
We do not believe this incident poses a risk to the wider public.
