We are continuing the identification process after the body of a man was located yesterday morning, Saturday 30 December, in Hockley Woods.
Although formal identification is yet to take place, we remain in consistent contact with the family and loved ones of Marc Jones, who was reported missing to us on Saturday 23 December, after travelling from Marlow, Buckinghamshire, to visit family in Essex.
As with every investigation carried out in the force, we will always look to identify learnings.
In this case, we will be making a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). This is not because of any misconduct matters identified but rather to seek to identify whether there were early opportunities or lines of enquiry to be explored which were not.
In every missing persons case, our goal is to locate the individual safely and without them coming to harm. Officers work determinedly to achieve that goal.
Unfortunately, that goal cannot always be realised.
Marc’s family and loved ones have been updated consistently and are aware of our referral to the IOPC.
Our thoughts continue to be with Marc’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time and they are aware they can contact us at any time.
Saturday 30 December
The search for missing man Marc Jones has been halted after the body of a man was located in Hockley Woods early this morning, Saturday 30 December.
Although formal identification is yet to be carried out, Marc’s family have been informed of the development and are being supported by officers from Thames Valley Police.
Marc, 44, from Marlow, in Buckinghamshire, had travelled to see family in Essex before Christmas and was reported missing to us on Saturday 23 December.
Alongside colleagues in Thames Valley Police, we worked to pursue reasonable lines of enquiry to locate Marc, including following up sightings which were reported to us and to TVP colleagues.
We will provide an update on our investigation as soon as we practically can. At this time, our thoughts are very much with Marc’s family and those close to him at this difficult time.
