This December, officers have so far arrested over 200 people on suspicion of drink and drug driving offences.
Roads Policing Officers have made 126 arrests on suspicion of driving whilst over the alcohol limit, made 95 arrests for drug driving offences and 36 arrests for failure to provide.
These arrests took place between 1 December and 27 December during proactive policing patrols and form part of the drink drive campaign #DrinkDrivingTogetherWeCanStopIt.
Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing said “We have seen an increase in the number of arrests for these offences, compared to last month.
“As we head into the New Years weekend, we typically see a lot more cases of drink and drug driving.
“We will continue to actively patrol to arrest anyone who think it’s acceptable to get behind the wheel whilst over the limit.”
We are asking for the public’s help with this campaign to ‘prevent, persuade and call the police’ on drink drivers over the Christmas period.
