Work by specialist officers have ensured a man has been found guilty of raping a woman in Dunmow.
Thirty-two year-old Rory Miles was arrested after it was alleged he sexually assaulted a woman at an address in the town following a night out on 10 November 2018.
It was reported Miles, of Harris Green, Dunmow, had sexually assaulted the woman before she managed to get away from him and call for help.
Miles was charged with rape and the woman was supported by specialist officers from our Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team.
He denied the charge and stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Yesterday (Wednesday 8 February), a jury found him guilty. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 27 March.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Jon Nottage said:
“Rory Miles took advantage of the woman and forced himself on her for his own gratification, showing no regard of how she felt and the affect it would have on her.
“During interview he claimed the sexual contact was consensual, and maintained this stance, putting the woman through a trial, thankfully the jury saw through his lies.
“I want to praise the courage demonstrated by the woman who came forward and reported what had happened to her, along with her incredible strength she has shown throughout this process.
“I hope this conviction will help her to move forward.”
