A man has been given a football banning order after assaulting a Woking player during a Southend United match last October.
Jake Devlin, 28, of Littlebury Green, Basildon, assaulted the Woking player during a National League match at Roots Hall on 4 October.
He was charged with assault by beating and convicted at Basildon Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (2 February).
Devlin’s been given a three year football banning order and told to pay fines at costs totalling £675.
PC Keith Baker, one of our Dedicated Football Officers, said:
“Jake Devlin’s actions were completely unacceptable.
“No-one in their line of work should be faced with a threat of violence, and football players are no different.
“We will take action against anyone who thinks they can behave in this manner.”
