A man has been charged as part of our response to a serious incident in Walton.
We were called to High Street at 6.45pm on Wednesday 1 February to reports of a disturbance during which a man, aged in his 50s, had sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully, he is now in a stable condition.
A man was arrested nearby and questioned on suspicion of GBH.
21-year-old Murat Sanci, of Oldbury Road, Enfield, was charged with GBH with intent and possessing a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place.
He appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 3 February. He was remanded into custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on March 3.
Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances around an incident which took place last night in High Street, Walton.
We were called to High Street at 6.45pm to reports of a disturbance during which a man, aged in his 50s, had sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully, he is now in a stable condition.
We’re continuing to work to understand what happened, but we have now ascertained the victim sustained his injuries after colliding with a vehicle. He also subsequently sustained a stab wound.
A 21-year-old man from Enfield was arrested on suspicion of GBH. He remains in custody being questioned.
Detective Inspector Jason Scrivener said:
“We’ve made really quick progress overnight and we have a firm understanding of what took place in Walton last night and we’re continuing to question a man in connection with the incident.
“We appreciate this isolated incident happened very publicly and there will naturally be a concern among the Walton community.
“At this time, we’re not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and there will be policing presence in High Street throughout the day.”

Our investigation is in its early stages and we are working quickly to establish what happened in the moments leading up to the incident and how the man came to be injured.
A police cordon was put in place and residents will see an increased policing presence in the area.
A 21-year-old man from Enfield has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and he remains in custody for questioning. At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Detective chief inspector Rob Huddleston said:
“We know this incident was witnessed by a number of people in the town centre and it will naturally have caused some concern among the community.
“We’ve acted quickly, and officers have arrested a man and he will remain in custody overnight.
“We anticipate there will be a significant police presence in the town centre overnight as our investigations are carried out.”
DCI Huddleston added:
“I would also say, although the investigation is in its infancy, at this stage we don’t believe there is any wider threat to members of the public in Walton.
“We have already taken accounts from a number of people who witnessed the incident but we need anyone who has information and has not yet spoken to us to please come forward.
“Equally, we would like to hear from anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident.”
