Jailed: Jane Cook and her son Tye Cook

Thanks to the work of our officers, a mother and son have been jailed as part of an investigation into the supply of Class A drugs in Essex estimated to be worth £800,000.

Officers from our Serious and Organised Crime Unit found over 11 kilos of drugs in a car and their home.

The pair, both of Worcester Drive, Rayleigh, were sentenced at Southend Crown Court on Friday 13 January where they both appeared to answer drug related charges - possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, conspiracy to supply a Class A drug and acquiring, using or possessing criminal property.

After entering guilty pleas, Tye Cook, 30, was jailed for a total of six years and nine months whilst his mother, Jane Cook, 50, was jailed for three years and nine months.

On the evening of Thursday 19 May last year, officers found four kilos of cocaine in the car being driven by Tye Cook after it was stopped on the A127 at Rayleigh.

Officers found an additional 4 kilos of ketamine and more than three kilos of cocaine when they searched the Worcester Drive property he shared with his mother in Rayleigh. A further 60 grams of cannabis was also found.

The duo were charged with drug offences and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 21 May 2022.

Detective Inspector Yoni Adler, SCD, said:

“This was a huge amount of drugs that could not be allowed to hit the streets; the long-term harm to our communities would have been irreparable.
“Both Tye Cook and Jane Cook will no longer be able to cause harm to our residents and have rightly been jailed for their part in attempting to supply drugs.”
