Officers called to an aggravated burglary in Braintree arrested a man within 30 minutes of attending thanks to the help of members of the public.
We were called at about 9.15pm to reports of a man attempting to enter a property in Warren Road using a knife.
Officers were at the address 11 minutes after being called, and five police crews searched the area before finding and detaining a suspect within half an hour of arriving at the scene.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson said:
“Our officers moved quickly to make sure a suspect was identified as quickly as possible.
“This is an excellent result for public safety, but could only be achieved thanks to the information provided by the public at the scene.
“We urge anyone with more information about this incident to come forward to help us with our further enquiries.”
