Officers investigating a serious assault in Colchester in the early hours of the morning made two arrests within an hour thanks to thorough and speedy enquiries.
We were called shortly after 3.30am this morning (Saturday 29 July) to reports of an assault in Head Street, Colchester.
Officers were at the scene within minutes, finding a male unconscious with a head injury.
Within an hour, we identified key lines of enquiry and made two arrests.
A 35-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, both from Colchester, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
They remain in custody for questioning.
A 17-year-old male was taken on to Colchester General Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
A cordon remained in place at the scene while an investigation continued, but was stood down shortly after 10am.
Chief Inspector Colin Cox, Colchester district commander, said:
“We take a tough stance on any incidents of violence in our city centre and use our strong links with partners to ensure we keep people in Colchester safe.
“Thanks to the quality of the city’s CCTV network, and through our links with city centre businesses, we were able to quickly progress enquiries into this incident and make arrests.
“Although Colchester remains a safe place to live, work and visit, we know incidents like this cause understandable concern.
“But residents can be assured we will always act quickly and decisively, as we have in this case, to investigate the circumstances on the rare occasion an incident of this nature occurs.”
