The incident happened on Tuesday 11 July at about 3.20pm.
Shortly after, a man in his 50s was taken to hospital with stab wounds where he remains in a critical condition.
Another man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder the same day. John Garrett, 54, of Elm Close, Tiptree, has now been charged with attempted murder and robbery and will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today.
A 59-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Alison Hooper, leading the investigation said:
“This charge could only be made with the efforts of my colleagues across the police force, making sure the facts of this incident were established as quickly as possible.
“I’d like to thank my colleagues for all their hard work. I would also like to thank the members of the public that witnessed the incident, helped the victim and have supported our investigation.”
