Officers are continuing to investigate an incident that occurred on Maypole Road, Tiptree.
We were called shortly after 3.20pm on Tuesday 11 July.
A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with stab wounds where he remains in a critical condition.
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody and officers are continuing to investigate.
Detective Inspector DI Alison Hooper, who is leading the investigation, said:
“Our officers are working hard to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“Keeping the public safe is our top priority – our response to this incident means we have been able to quickly arrest a suspect.
“Members of the public may have important information about this incident that assists us with our enquiry, and I would urge anyone to come forward to help.”
