Officers successfully stopped and detained five suspects after tracking a car stolen during a burglary just hours earlier.
We received a call reporting a burglary at a property in Stanford-le-Hope in the early hours of the morning on Thursday 8 June.
The victim’s car, a Ford Kuga, was taken from outside the property.
Acting quickly on intelligence received, officers traced the car to the A127, near Wickford, later that day.
Our officers engaged the stolen vehicle in a short pursuit, with the vehicle travelling the wrong way around a roundabout before attempting to head the wrong way along the A127 northbound.
Officers managed to stop the vehicle shortly before 12.15pm. The occupants attempted to escape on foot, but were quickly detained nearby.
Five people are currently in custody for questioning on suspicion of driving and burglary offences.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley said:
“We know how heavily the impact of home burglary weighs upon the victims, which is why investigating burglaries and supporting victims is a priority for us.
"Our teams work tirelessly to track down perpetrators and bring to them to justice and this investigation exemplifies the strong and established links between our road crime team, intelligence officers and our local policing teams and allowed us to react to intelligence received at pace.”
