Officers acting quickly to probe a series of burglaries which saw vehicles taken from outside properties in west Essex have charged five people in connection with their investigation.
In the early hours of Thursday 8 June, we received a call reporting a car had been taken from outside an address in South Ockendon.
That same morning, we received a call reporting attempted break-ins at two addresses in Aveley.
At around 6.30am, another call was made to our force control room reporting a burglary in Stanford-le-Hope.
It was reported a car, a Ford Kuga, had been stolen from outside an address.
We quickly traced this vehicle to the A127, at Wickford, stopping it by 12.15pm that same day.
Five suspects were detained and were taken to custody for questioning.
• Curtis Tiller, 19, of Hamstel Road, Southend, has been charged with burglary and aggravated vehicle taking. He was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 10 June.
• Oatty Dowell, 18, of Pound Lane, Basildon, has been charged with burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 10 June.
• Shane Hagger, 21, of Panfields, Basildon, has been charged assaulting an emergency worker, attempted burglary, interfering with a motor vehicle and two counts of burglary. He was due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 10 June.
• Bailey Carroll, 18, of Military Road, Colchester, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a license, driving without insurance, theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of burglary and five counts of attempted burglary. He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 17 June.
• A 16-year-old boy, from Basildon, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, five counts of burglary and five counts of attempted burglary. He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13 June.
