Charity football tournament Essex Community Goals returns this summer and there is still time for teams to sign up.
The 7-a-side competition gives youngsters from a wide range of backgrounds and footballing abilities the opportunity to get active and interact with the police in a fun and informal setting.
It takes place from 9am on Saturday 24 June at the EJA ground in Great Baddow.
Last year, 260 young footballers representing 25 teams from all over the county enjoyed a day of football, music and glorious sunshine.
Hutton FC took home the trophy in the 15 to 16-year-old age group after beating ATF Southend 2-0. The 13 to 14-year-olds’ tournament was won by Sandy Colts from Chelmsford who beat Brentwood’s Nice Booters on penalties after their game ended 1-1.
Every player who takes part will get a medal, goody bag and lunch. Profits from the tournament will be donated to a local charity partner.
T/Chief Inspector Kelly Thurston is one of the event organisers. She said:
“Essex Community Goals is all about getting active and having fun, so if you run a team containing the next Harry Kane or Lucy Bronze, or you know a group of youngsters who’d love to take part, we’d love you to sign up.
“We’re open to single or mixed teams of boys and girls of all abilities, the atmosphere is always really friendly, and everyone will go home with a medal and a smile on their face.
“Last year was a huge success, we had a former Premier League footballer come down to watch, and it was great to see so many young people playing in the right spirit, smashing in goals and enjoying themselves.”
Book your team’s place today by emailing [email protected].
There is an entry fee of £25 per team, and teams can be either single or mixed gender.
The deadline for registration is the 14 June but book soon to avoid missing out.
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
