A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary less than 15 minutes after the incident was reported to us.
We were called to the incident, in Lakeside, Rayleigh, shortly after 10am this morning, Wednesday 17 May after a window to a home was smashed and a man had entered the property.
Officers quickly arrived and arrested a man nearby.
During a search, officers found a number of significant items.
Officers have remained on scene throughout the day as investigations continue.
The 47-year-old remains in custody.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Marcus Dodd said:
“We know that burglary is among the most invasive of crimes and we work really hard to make sure, where there is an opportunity to make quick arrests, that we do so.
“In this instance, a man was in custody within 15 minutes of the incident being reported to us and the investigation will proceed appropriately.
“The victims in this case acted fast to alert us to what was going on and we have continued to support them throughout the day. Thankfully, significant items which were taken from their home have now been returned.
“There has been a visible policing presence in the area throughout today and I would encourage anyone who has any concerns to raise to speak to those officers; they are there to help you.”
