Officers investigating a serious collision in Grays which left two runners with serious injuries are releasing an image of the vehicle we believe is involved.
Two women were running along Dock Road shortly after 8.10pm on Wednesday (8 November).
They were then in collision with a vehicle at the junction with Marshfoot Road and Old Dock Approach Road.
The car – believed to be a dark-coloured BMW – failed to stop at the scene of the collision, making off along Old Dock Approach Road towards the B149 Wood View.
We are now in a position to release an image of the car.
As the car left the scene at speed, it overtook another, smaller car which we believe is a Ford Fiesta.
We also want to trace the driver of this car and speak to them as a witness and are also releasing an image of this car.
Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“Two people have sustained really serious injuries as a result of this collision and it’s really important we’re able to find the driver involved.
“I know these images are not the clearest, but I hope releasing them will trigger someone’s memory.
“I believe the impact of the collision will have left the car involved with damage to it and this would be visible.
“Has a neighbour returned home with damage to their car that wasn’t there in before?
“Have they parked their car differently to how they usually do?
“If you recognise the vehicle or have seen something suspicious, please report it to us.”

We are renewing our appeal for witnesses and information after two pedestrians were left seriously injured following a collision with a vehicle in Grays.
Our officers were called by ambulance service colleagues to the scene of a collision in Dock Road, at the junction with Marshfoot Road, shortly after 8.15pm on Wednesday 8 November.
The vehicle involved left the scene and enquiries are continuing at pace to find it.
Two women have been taken to hospital with serious injuries and continue to receive treatment.
Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes, of our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“The two women involved in this collision were crossing the road, at the crossing between Dock Road and Marshfoot Road, shortly before 8.15pm on Wednesday 8 November.
“They were involved in a collision with what witnesses have described as a black saloon car, potentially a BMW.
“We are urgently looking to find this vehicle and are carrying out a number of enquiries to do so.
“Anyone with any information, or anyone who witnessed this incident, is asked to come forward.
“In particular, I would ask anyone in the area who has been asked to make repairs to a vehicle with visible front-end damage over the past 24 hours to consider this appeal, and whether the vehicle matches the description given by witnesses.”
