We are now treating a fire in Basildon this morning as arson and one person has been arrested.
We were called by the fire service shortly after 6am today who reported a fire in Elizabeth Way.
It’s believed the fire itself had been started shortly before 5.15am.
We worked alongside the fire service to establish its cause, and we now believe it was started deliberately and are treating it as arson.
Enquiries into the fire are ongoing and one person has been arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life.
They are currently in custody.
