Last week, four drivers received a total of 14 penalty points on their licences after Extra Eyes received dash cam footage capturing driving offences from the public.
Thanks to you, dash cam footage uploaded to Extra Eyes saw the four drivers sentenced for careless driving at a special traffic hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 October after all four drivers pleaded guilty to the offences.
Extra Eyes were notified of two separate incidents involving cyclists, who are vulnerable road users.
The first, the driver of a van received three penalty points and fined £133 for an incident on 14 June in Southend. The driver admitted they overtook a cyclist whilst driving on the wrong side of a keep left bollard.
The second, the driver of an Audi received three penalty points and fined £233 for an incident on 5 July in Silver End. The driver pleaded guilty to a close pass to a cyclist, not allowing sufficient space whilst overtaking.
On 1 July a Renault Clio was captured using the hard shoulder to overtake stationary traffic on the M11, due to an incident further ahead. The driver made no attempt to re-join the traffic. He was fined £216 and issued 3 penalty points.
The biggest fine of the session was £466 for the driver of a Mercedes leaving a car meet in the north of Essex at around midnight on 25 June. The driver was also issued five penalty points after he pleaded guilty to burning tyres, the smoke from which, obscured the road.
All four drivers were ordered to pay £110 costs and victim surcharges.
