A man has been arrested after four of our officers were assaulted in Benfleet yesterday morning.
Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at an address in Angela Mews in Benfleet at around 7:30am on Wednesday, 27 September.
When officers attended, four officers were assaulted by a man sustaining cuts and bruises. One of these officers was also sexually assaulted.
A 32-year-old man from Benfleet has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a female and common assault of an emergency services worker.
Chief Superintendent Waheed Khan said:
“We attended the address after being called to reports of a disturbance. Our brave officers deployed, as they do every day, with the intention of keeping the public safe. It’s unacceptable that they would be assaulted whilst doing their job.
“Enquiries remain ongoing for this investigation.
“We are supporting the officers involved and will continue to keep the safety of our officers as a priority.”
