Officers are investigating reports of an incident involving a man approaching children in the area of St John’s Road, Epping.
This was reported to have taken place at around 4pm on Wednesday 27 September.
This involved an unwanted approach and comments made.
Officers are conducting high visibility patrols in the area today and the public are advised to approach them with any concerns.
Ch/Insp Tina Cooper, Brentwood and Epping district commander, said:
“I am aware of concern shared by some parents around this matter.
“Our inquiries are progressing quickly as we investigate these reports.
“I am also aware of some unhelpful images and messaging being shared on social media, inaccurately linking this matter to an address in the area.
“We know that this does not concern anyone linked to the address in question and I would ask the community to be mindful of sharing or spreading misinformation.
“I would instead urge anyone with concerns to share them with us. We are here to help and listen, and rely on your reports to build up an accurate picture where issues of this nature arise.”
