A man has been charged in connection with a break-in in Nazeing earlier this month.
It was reported someone had attended an address in Middle Street and managed to get inside by telling the occupant, a man in his 80s, that he needed help.
A wallet was stolen from inside and then money used to buy items like alcohol and cigarettes.
Thirty-six year-old Darrell Smith, of Ram Gorse, Harlow was arrested last week and later charged with burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 14 September and is next due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 12 October.
