We arrested 10 people across Essex while out patrolling your streets and travelling on your roads.
Among these were six made by our Operational Support Group, including three in connection with the attempted theft of a car.
We received reports that two suspects had tried to steal a car in Clickett Hill, Basildon, at about 5.35pm on Monday 12 August.
The suspects fled the scene in another car believed to be stolen, which was identified by our Operation Support Group. This was tracked as moving in a convoy with a third car, also believed to be stolen, and the suspects were traced to an address in Long Riding.
Local officers and units from the Operational Policing Command, including a dog unit, surrounded the property and arrested three men, a 32-year-old man from Basildon, a 30-year-old of no fixed abode, and a 17-year-old boy, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
The key for one of the stolen vehicles was found in the property and has been recovered.
In the north of Essex, Operational Support Group officers in Witham identified and arrested a 19-year-old man from the town on suspicion of robbery and causing grievous bodily harm.
The arrest was in connection with an assault in Douglas Grove, also in Witham, on 24 July, where a man was reportedly robbed and attacked by three suspects carrying planks and poles, leaving them with serious head injuries.
He has now been released on bail until 29 September while enquiries continue.
Two people were also arrested overnight in the Harwich.
A 37-year-old man from Harwich was arrested after he tried to evade police by abandoning his car and hiding in a property.
He is being held on suspicion of breaching a restraining order, possession of an offensive weapon, assault, criminal damage, burglary and two counts of making threats to kill.
A 34-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with the incident.
In south Essex, a 40-year-old man from Canvey Island has been arrested after failing to appear at court charged with possessing a bladed article in a public place.
He has now been remanded in custody pending a future court date.
As well as the day’s arrests, our officers, PCSOs and special constables have been our in our communities.
We attended three community events yesterday, carried out five weapons sweeps of our open spaces and recovered a knife.
We also stopped 56 vehicles, seizing four vehicles for having no insurance, and carried out 131 speed checks.
Superintendent Phil Stinger said:
“Our officers are always hard at work – that work covers a huge range of responsibilities as yesterday shows.
“We’re able to find and detain suspects like we did thanks to the law-abiding majority supporting our work, whether that’s through sharing what they’ve seen in our communities or following the rules of the road.”
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
