Seven people have been arrested in connection with the theft of cables following good work by our officers.
At 11pm on Wednesday 31 July, grey Ford Focus RS, which was believed to have been stolen, was identified to be in Danbury.
The vehicle was linked to a group believed to be responsible for the theft of cabling used for phone and internet.
Officers from our Operational Support Unit, Road Crime Team, Dog Unit supported by the National Police Air Service, followed the vehicle to Maldon Road where the people inside got out and tried to make off.
Seven people were quickly arrested and questioned.
They are currently on police bail and our enquiries continue.
The car was seized and officers recovered a number of items including jammers, key kits, hats, and gloves.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Johnstone said:
“Tenacious and quick work from officers in teams across the force secured a number of arrests in connection with theft of cables Danbury.
"Cable thefts can have a really big impact on communities as losing internet connectively affects everything from online shopping and accessing social media to working from home.
"We are steadfast in our commitment to arresting those involved in this type of criminal activity and bringing them before the courts.”
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
